These next photos are from the sculpture and mosaic garden of Josie Martin, called “The Giant’s House.” The house was built in the 1880s, using New Zealand woods and a mahogany staircase imported from France.  Josie, a modern artist, uses her house and hillside garden to create whimsical figures and pathways constructed out of ceramic pieces and glass bottles. The garden is planted and maintained to complement the sculptures and mosaics.

We stopped at the L’Hotel café for lunch. The special was local green lipped mussels cooked in a white wine and garlic broth, served with French bread. While overlooking the Akaroa harbor and accompanied by a Speights Gold Medal beer and a hearty bowl of chowder, the lunch stop was terrific.
