Our day in Amsterdam was spent on a private tour hosted by Edwin Groenweg, also known as the Dutch Travel Advisor. Edwin provided a great narrative during the hour drive from the Rotterdam port to Amsterdam. He had purchased advance tickets for us to visit the Anne Frank House and Museum, a canal boat tour and the Van Gogh Museum. Having the Anne Frank Museum tickets in hand was a terrific time-saving step. It is quite unlikely that we would have had enough time to wait in the daily ticket purchase queue. We also learned that the advance tickets were also sold out for some time.
The visit to the Anne Frank House was a somewhat somber experience. It is difficult to imagine the concern, fear and isolation felt by those affected by Nazi Germany's horrific policies. It is one thing to read Anne's book and a completely eye-opening experience to walk into the hidden living areas of the Anne Frank House.
We heartily recommend Edwin as a tour guide for Amsterdam. Moreover, I understand he provides services throughout the Netherlands and in Brussels and Bruges.
