In case you haven't noticed, I haven't posted new travel entries in a while. While we're preparing for a Fall trip to the Falklands and South Georgia Island and a 2018 transatlantic cruise, we're in the middle of a residential move.
As empty nesters, we realized that we no longer needed the space or maintenance work of a two-story house and large yard. After much thought, we decided to purchase a smaller house in a local development that should be completed at the end of the year.
We placed our house on the market in early August. At the end of the first week, we had three purchase offers to consider and accepted one. We're now packing our house contents and selling or giving away furniture that is perfect for a large house but won't fit within the constraints of less space. Since our new house isn't ready for moving into, we'll move to a temporary furnished residence for three months. This means that all of our possessions - even the items that don't easily fit into boxes - must be stored in a moving company's warehouse for about three months.
Given that we will still have a polar trip during the remainder of 2017, we need to make sure that we also pack our clothes and travel accessories for the Antarctic region. We don't want these items locked away in the mover's warehouse.
So, in between packing for a move and polar trip, we're also selecting floor and bathroom tiles, hardwood floors, carpet, lighting, electrical receptacle placement, counter tops, drawer pulls, shower fixtures and cabinets for the new house. In addition, we're preparing our temporary residence (a family member's house) that has not been lived in for awhile for our upcoming stay. This has meant arranging deep cleaning and attending to needed maintenance work.
We're looking forward to completing our two moves, but will have to wait until early 2018 to rest a bit.
