We're traveling north to Seattle this weekend to attend a wedding for the
daughter of a long-time friend. The Southwest flight took off around 10am and
we were on the ground by 11:30. We needed local transportation to the wedding at
the GasWorks Park and a nearby reception, so a rental car at SeaTac was needed. The lines at the Budget counter, highway traffic and Sheraton registration desk were long and we finally were in our room after 2 pm.
With Saturday afternoon at our disposal, we grabbed a quick lunch at the
downtown Specialty Bakery and then grabbed a cab to Seattle Center to see the
Chihuly Glass Garden and Exhibits. The traffic to the Seattle Center was
extremely congested, so we exited the cab early and walked the last couple
blocks.
Chihuly Garden and
Glass focuses on the career and work of artist Dale Chihuly.
The Exhibition Hall opened in mid-2012 and contains eight galleries and three Drawing Walls, offering visitors a
view of several of Chihuly’s past works; the Glasshouse
presents a suspended 1,400-piece, 100-foot-long sculpture; and his glassworks are amid a lush setting in the Garden.

Exiting the glass exhibits, we wandered through the EMP Museum at the Seattle Center. We had been to this museum before and spent most of our time viewing the new exhibit on women in music. As street traffic was heavy due to the evening torchlight parade, we jumped on the monorail for a quick ride to the downtown area and our hotel.
Returning back to the Sheraton, we rested a few minutes and
then headed out to Wild Ginger for dinner. Wild Ginger is at the corner of
Union and 3rd Avenue, about three blocks from our hotel. We enjoyed
a dinner of Fragrant Duck in dumplings, seven flavored flank steak, noodles
with vegetables and rice. The dinner was very flavorful, reasonably priced and
the service was attentive. A great way to end our first day in Seattle.
On late Sunday morning, we wandered through Seattle’s Public
Market looking for a possible lunch stop. The flowers and farmers market had
lots of offerings, some of which were unfamiliar to us.

After lunch, we returned to the Sheraton to
get ready for the afternoon wedding. The wedding was at the Gas Works Park, a
former coal and crude oil to gas processing plant that was made into a 19 acre Seattle park.
The green park lawn overlooking the Seattle harbor was a beautiful wedding
location.
