Despite being a frequent international and domestic air travel passenger, a surprising new experience can still occur during a flight. So, what happens when an opened milk carton, precariously balanced on an attendant's beverage cart, falls and lands on a passenger's sport coat?
The apologetic attendant cleans the coat in-flight as best as possible, but dry cleaning is still needed. The coat owner/wearer should receive a form from an attendant as you disembark the plane for submitting a dry cleaning expense reimbursement to American. If you need the coat during the trip, your choices are to use the dry cleaning service from your hotel or visit a nearby dry cleaning store. If you have a late afternoon hotel arrival time and need the coat during your trip, the latter may be your best bet. However, if you don't have a rental car at your destination hotel, you may need to use a cab between the hotel and dry cleaner.
The reimbursement process is fairly straightforward. Instructions are on the mail-in form. An online submittable form is unavailable. American Airlines, may at first, approve the dry cleaning expense reimbursement request but deny any cab fare reimbursement. Resubmittal of a politely worded justification for taxi cab fare reimbursement request along with all copies of all supporting documentation (cab fare receipts and previous dry cleaning docs) may be all that is needed for American customer service to reconsider its previous decision and forward a second check for full cab fare. This has been my personal experience from my recent flight to St.Louis.
