Travel Plans for Fall - 2014

After returning from Africa, I thought our travel schedule would slow down a bit until the new year. However, a number of travel opportunities came up and our fall schedule now looks fairly busy. In between these upcoming trips and the end of the year holidays, we'll be finalizing our packing list for Antarctica with side trips to Argentina and Brazil.

After a about a year since our last cruise, we're joining family members and boarding a  short cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles. The cruise doesn't include any port stops but instead just follows a slow path down the west coast. We've taken these short cruises previously and found them to be very relaxing. Enough time to hit the gym each day, watch a few shows, read a book or two and not have to worry about cooking any meals. Travel doesn't get much easier nor restive - once you get past the airport and transiting between the airport and cruise ports. We recently completed the TSA Pre applications, so at least going through the TSA terminal checks has been a little easier.

About a month later, we'll take a short trip to New York. Our last trip to the east coast was in 2012, as part of a cruise from Quebec to New York. Luckily, that particular trip was completed just before Hurricane Sandy hit. I couldn't imagine traveling in a situation which posed so many difficulties and hardship for residents, government agencies, businesses and travelers.

This 2014 visit to New York will be just less than a week but should allow us to experience some fall colors around Central Park. We've also picked up a few theater tickets for evening outings. After looking through the theater schedules, we ordered tickets for two shows, "The Last Ship," a new musical from Sting, and "Beautiful: the Carol King Musical." I've read some great reviews about Jessie Mueller, who won a Best Actress Tony Award for her performance in Beautiful.

We still have some time to plan out our day activities. A few museum visits, a stop at Chelsea Market and perhaps a bicycle ride through Central Park are high on our list. If our schedule permits, I'd like to visit the brick and mortor B&H Photo store in New York - its online store is one of my favorites.
