Disembarking the Royal Princess

After 15 days of sailing, of which ten were at-sea days, we're now starting our UK land travel. We had quite a few at-sea days but we found ourselves on these days with a relaxing but full set of daily activities. I was able to finish reading "The Sympathizer" by Viet Thanh Nguyen, "Still Alice" and "Left Neglected," both by Lisa Genova and "The Whole Truth," by David Baldacci . I'm close to completing my reading of "The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet" by Nina Teicholtz and "Hiroshima" by John Hershey. I found "The Sympathizer" thoughtfully a d beautifully written, and very engaging - a well recommended read.

We watched about eight current movies (released during the past 12 months) while on the ship. We would have liked to watch a few movies on the Royal Princess' big outdoor screen (Movies Under The Stars), but rainy weather kept us indoors. The port lectures we attended were interesting and informative. We didn't attend too many enrichment lectures during this trip.

Our port stops on this trip were San Miguel Island in the Azores, Cobh, Amsterdam and Bruges. I'll post more detailed descriptions and photos from these stops as time permits. We enjoyed all of our port visits, from the green hills and volcanic sights in the Azores, to Blarney Castle, to the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum and Amsterdam city walk and boat canal ride and to our Bruges city walk and boat canal ride, visit to Chocolatiers, stopping by 't Zwart Huis (Black House) pub and restaurant for lunch and locally brewed beer and, finally, a Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries. We plan to view again the movie, "In Bruges" to remind us of the city sights.

Onto Bath!
