This past weekend, my wife and I traveled to Santa Barbara to attend a wedding of a long-time friend's daughter. It was a great opportunity to get together for a fun and joyous occasion and also enjoy the cooler coastal weather. As I recall, our central valley residence area was experiencing 100F degree days over this weekend.
After debating the pros and cons of driving versus flying, We decided to fly to Burbank and then drive 90 minutes to Santa Barbara. We stayed at the Upham Hotel, a historic Santa Barbara hotel in operation since 1871. The hotel location was only a couple of blocks from State Street, the primary downtown shop and stroll street.
We had a free morning to enjoy the fresh air and walk down State Street to the Santa Barbara Stearns Wharf. On the way back to Burbank, we stopped at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. At 10:30am, the parking lot was already filled and admission lines were formed at the doors. We decided this visit would have to wait for another Southern California trip as we didn't have enough time to tour this expansive Presidential Library. Advice for others: pre-purchase your entry tickets via the Web and arrive as close to the opening time, as possible.
