Annual Winter Trip to Tahoe

Each February, we try to schedule some time to drive up to Lake Tahoe to visit friends and also get together for a couple of ski days. It looks like the drive will be pleasant as the recent rains have ended and sunny weather is forecast for all of next week. I left the Spikes-Spider in the garage - though we do have all-wheel drive available.

This is our second use of a Tahoe City cabin that is conveniently located just a couple of blocks off the main street of Tahoe City, North Lake Blvd/28. Once parked at the cabin, weather permitting, we can often walk to the grocery store, video rental, local coffee shop and restaurants. The ski slopes are either a 30 minute drive or there is a public shuttle.

After skiing at Sqauw Valley over the past three years, I've been spending more time at neighboring Alpine Meadows. Alpine provides more than enough stimuli for a day of skiing. Given the absent weekend traffic and crowds, we can generally get in more ski runs mid-week by noon compared to any ski weekend day. The exception being a stormy day which often results in numerous stops to warm up as well as a slower descent while dealing with the limited visibility.

During my downtime, I'll try to spend time developing a presentation I've been asked to make to a National Academy committee on developing the cyber-security professionalism. This comes before my retirement in May and the timing allows me to reflect on my entry into this field in 1988, the workforce now and where it needs to be in the future.

The Tahoe trip also provides a great way to escape the need to run any household errands. This give us some additional time for Kindle reading and to update several Tripadvisor reviews that were intended from our Australia and New Zealand trip.
